I am a first-generation Mexican-Venezuelan who immigrated with my family to San Diego in 1988. After being awarded a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, I completed my internship at an American Psychological Association accredited program at Trinitas Regional Medical Center in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
My clinical experience began in 2006, and I have worked in a myriad of settings, including psychiatric hospitals, community mental health centers, inpatient addiction treatment facilities, university counseling centers, and private practice. During my clinical training, I have had the opportunity of completing a variety of psychological evaluations on children, adults, and older adult populations.
I am a multilingual clinician who has provided therapy in Spanish, English, and French. My clinical practice is based heavily on psychodynamic theory, and am a current fellow at the San Diego Psychoanalytic Center. However, I believe a well-balanced clinical practice benefits from utilizing many approaches, and I completed a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Intensive training, which allowed me to run DBT skills groups and individual DBT therapy with adults. I specialize in treating adults struggling with depression, anxiety, trauma, personality disorders, and other emotional disturbances. I am passionate about my clinical work and I always strive for a strong working relationship with the individuals I treat in therapy.
As a registered psychological assistant, I work under the supervision of Dr. Mariela G. Shibley as I pursue licensure in the State of California. I would be happy to discuss your needs and see if we can work together to improve your quality of life.
