A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, I immigrated to the U.S. in 1991. I received my professional training from the University of California, Los Angeles, and the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University, San Diego. I completed post-doctoral training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis and the San Diego Psychoanalytic Center, where I graduated from the 5-year integrated child and adult psychoanalytic program.* To learn about psychoanalysis, click HERE. In addition, I have had extensive training in forensic psychology, developing a specialty in immigration evaluations. I also perform psychological evaluations for criminal defense cases (competency and mitigation for sentencing), C&P examinations for the U.S. Dept. of Veteran's Affairs, fitness for duty evaluations, and pre-adoption assessments, among others.
After working in various mental health settings throughout San Diego, offering inpatient and outpatient mental health services, I established Shibley Psychology in 2010. I enjoy working with adult individuals, couples, and families, and I am fluent in Spanish and Portuguese. Within my practice, I have trained and supervised many mental health professionals, and in 2020, I founded PsychEvalCoach, an online training program for conducting immigration evaluations. I wrote a book, Conducting Immigration Evaluations: A Practical Guide for Mental Health Professionals, published by Routledge in 2022. Over the years, I have given numerous presentations at conferences and educational settings on subjects such as immigration, acculturation, trauma, and coping with anxiety, stress, and depression.
Aside from my private practice, I am the director of mental health services at the UCSD Student-Run Free Clinic. I am adjunct faculty at the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University and have taught doctoral and master’s level courses at Argosy University San Diego and at the California School of Forensic Studies. I am also an active member of the American Psychological Association, the American Psychoanalytic Association, and the San Diego Psychological Association, where I serve on the Board of Directors and had the honor of receiving the fellow award in 2023.
I am passionate about what I do and I am constantly striving to grow both professionally and personally. Helping others understand themselves better and improve their quality of life is my main goal, and I do so by nurturing a safe and supportive environment with all of my patients.
