Being a psychotherapist was my adolescent dream. I feel grateful for not only having fulfilled this dream but also for enjoying it just as much as I had wished I would.
I earned my bachelor’s degree in general psychology at the American University of Beirut in Beirut, Lebanon in 2007. I earned my Doctor of Psychology degree (Psy.D.) at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2012. During my graduate training, I worked in a variety of settings such as a halfway house, outpatient clinic, prison, and a psychiatric hospital. I completed my internship at North Central Bronx Hospital in Bronx, New York and my postdoctoral residency at American Addiction Centers in West Palm Beach, Florida. After graduating, I dedicated the majority of my work to helping individuals struggling with drug addiction in both residential and outpatient facilities.
My fundamental approach to therapy can be described as insight-oriented psychodynamic therapy. The goal of this type of therapy is to have one gain self-awareness and understanding of how past behavior influences current behavior and to explore and resolve any past conflicts. This therapy can be short-term (3-6 months) or long-term (1+ years). While I use psychodynamic therapy as my base, I also utilize techniques from other forms of therapy, including cognitive behavioral, solution-focused, motivational interviewing, and existential therapies.
I have extensive experience in the areas of relationship struggles, meaning-of-life issues, and anxiety. I have worked a great deal with individuals struggling with the management of drug/alcohol problems, bipolar disorder, and psychosis. I can provide therapy in Arabic for those who speak Lebanese, Syrian, and Palestinian dialects and have an understanding of some English. I am happy to meet with individuals from other Arabic-speaking countries as well but would not be able to provide therapy solely in Arabic as I am not fluent in those dialects.
I welcome you to call me for a free phone consultation to see if I can suit your needs. In the meantime, I invite you to read some of my blogs here.
